Itinerary

Day 1 - September 16, 2019

Depart Canada Overnight flight to Lisbon, Portugal via Toronto. 

Day 2, Lisbon Airport - Santarem - Fatima

Arrival to Lisbon airport. Transfer to hotel in Fatima. On the way stop in Santarem to visit the Shrine of the Eucharistic Miracle. The Holy Mass in the sanctuary. Continue to BATALHA, you cannot miss the church of the monastery of Santa Maria da Vitória (cloisters not included), declared universal inheritance by the Unesco and one of the masterpieces of Portuguese Gothic and Manueline art. It was built to celebrate the independence of Portugal. Arrival to Fatima. Check in. The rest of the day for leisure. Participation in the evening rosary and candle procession (if available). Overnight Fatima. (D)

Day 3, Fatima

After breakfast visit the Sanctuary of Fatima including mass. Visit of Exposition "Fatima Light and Peace" (if available), shrine of Our Lady of Fatima: Basilica, Chapel of the Apparitions, the Church of the Holy Trinity and the statue of St. Pope John Paul II. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, we will visit Aljustel & Valinhos - places associated with the life and revelations of the 3 shepherds. Participation in the evening rosary and candle procession (if available). Overnight Fatima. (B, D)

Day 4, Fatima - Obidos - Nazare - Alcobaca - Fatima

After breakfast drive to Obidos, a charming Portuguese town with its medieval walls and white houses. We stop in Nazare, a typical Portuguese fishing village. Free time for lunch. Continue to Alcobaça, where there is the Monastery "Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça". Visit of the church and cloisters. Participation in the evening rosary and candle procession (if available). Overnight Fatima. (B, D)

Day 5, Fatima - Santiago de Compostela

After breakfast a mass in Santiago de Compostela. In the afternoon, return to Portugal to visit Braga, which is one of the oldest cities in Portugal - the cradle of Christianity in the west peninsula. Visit of the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte with an impressive two-level staircase. Mass in Bom Jesus or Sameiro sanctuary. Overnight Braga. (B, D)

Day 6, Santiago de Compostela - Braga

After breakfast a mass in Santiago de Compostela. In the afternoon, return to Portugal to visit Braga, which is one of the oldest cities in Portugal - the cradle of Christianity in the west peninsula. Visit of the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte with an impressive two-level staircase. Mass in Bom Jesus or Sameiro sanctuary. Overnight Braga. (B, D)

Day 7, Braga - Porto - Coimbra

Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning drive to Porto, the second largest city of Portugal, with the famous Porto wine. Panoramic tour of the city. We will visit the Sé – Cathedral and São Bento Railway Station (Estacao de Sao Bento), whose high lobby of the building is lined with blue tiles azulejos. Walking tour of Cais da Ribeira - waterfront Ribeira, the most typical and picturesque place in Porto. It is the oldest part of Porto in 1996, it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit of local wine cellar of Porto wine (tasting included). In the afternoon we will departure to Coimbra, the ancient capital of Portugal. The city is dominated Old University, which was founded in 1290. Is one of the oldest universities in Europe. Visit the Sister Lucia Memorial. Private Holy Mass in in Monastery of Santa Teresa (Carmelitas). Free time for a Walk through the streets of Coimbra (subject to available time). Overnight Coimbra. (B, D)

Day 8 – Coimbra - Sinta - Cabo Da Roca - Lisbon

After breakfast, we visit Sintra, full of mysticism, romance and medieval palaces. Visit of the National Palace. Free time for lunch and a stroll through the extremely picturesque streets of the city. Then we will stop in Cabo da Roca - the most westerly point of Europe. Overnight Lisbon. (B, D)

Day 9, Lisbon

After breakfast, cross the the April 25 Bridge, which is reminiscent of the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco. We will stop in Almada where visit sanctuary of Christ the King (lift for the tower not included) modeled on the Monument of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. We will continue to the famous district of Belem, where you will visit the church of Jeronimos Monastery, (visit only the church, cloisters not included) Belem Tower and the Monument to the Discoveries (from outside). Special coffee break (tasting cake "pastel de Belem" + drink). We continue to explore the Mercado da Ribeira (also known as Mercado 24 de Julho); it is Lisbon's main food market since 1892, also a fantastic place to eat. Free time for lunch. Return to hotel. The remainder of the afternoon for leisure/self exploration. Around 20h00 hours transfer to a local restaurant for a special celebration - a Fado Dinner. Around 22h30 return to the hotel. Overnight Lisbon. (B, D)

Day 10, Lisbon

After breakfast, drive to Igreja de Santo António for Mass. Continue to the oldest districts of Lisbon's Alfama, where the Cathedral (included) and the castle of St. George (from the outside), and the viewpoint St. Luzia, which offers a magnificent view of the river Tagus. Walking Baixa see the main streets and squares of Lisbon: Praça do Comércio, Rossio (the heart of Lisbon) Rua Augusta, Restauradores. Special Farewell lunch. Return to hotel. The remainder of the afternoon for leisure/self exploration. Overnight Lisbon. (B, L)

Day 11, Lisbon - Lisbon Airport - Return home

After breakfast, transfer to local church for mass. After mass transfer to Lisbon airport.(B)

Our visit to these three countries will take us along the path of the most revered saints of the Church, Saint Teresa of Ávila and Saint John of the Cross. We will visit some of the oldest sanctuaries such as Montserrat and El Pilar, both of which have played important roles in local as well as national history.
